August Trade Candidates

When the July 31 non-waiver trading deadline arrived with the Blue Jays realistically out of contention, it was expected that some superfluous pieces (to varying degrees) such as Casey Janssen, Darren Oliver, Rajai Davis and Emilio Bonifacio would be moved for low-level prospects or financial relief.  Instead the deadline came and went with the Blue Jays making no transactions at all.  Since that time, Emilio Bonifacio has cleared waivers and been traded to the Kansas City Royals for a player to be named later (PTBNL) or cash.  While this represents a logical start to moves for the Blue Jays, two more players should be jettisoned for some value as they are both impending free agents and unlikely to return – Darren Oliver and Rajai Davis.

Moving Oliver is the easiest move the Blue Jays can make for the rest of the season.  With a pair of strong southpaw relievers in Brett Cecil and Aaron Loup, Oliver has been relegated to the third left-handed option in the bullpen.  He was also behind Juan Perez until the latter tore his UCL two weeks ago.  Oliver is 42 years old and is likely in his last season, although speculation of his pending retirement has existed for years.  He has had difficulty getting his curveball in the zone versus left-handed hitters, making him unsuitable for high-leverage work, but he could be appealing in a low-leverage role for a team like the Yankees, Tigers, or Orioles who have all dealt with bullpen issues throughout the year.  The Tigers are probably the best fit as Leyland likes having veteran arms in his bullpen and Phil Coke, his lower-leverage left-handed option has battled control problems (9.6% walk rate).  Oliver could be replaced by Mickey Storey in the short term, in whom the Blue Jays could have another arm similar to Neil Wagner, and should ultimately be replaced by Luis Perez, who should return from Tommy John surgery in a couple of weeks.  Trading Oliver would represent a cost savings of $639,000

While trading Rajai Davis would bring back the greater value of the pair, the Blue Jays current roster construction makes it considerably more difficult.  At the non-waiver trading deadline, the Blue Jays had the flexibility to trade Davis, but with Rasmus and Cabrera both on the disabled list and Bautista now nursing a sore hip the Blue Jays outfield depth has been stretched to the limit.  Kevin Pillar and Anthony Gose have both been recalled from Buffalo and were sharing left and centre field with Davis, with Bautista manning right field, but now the Blue Jays have placed Bautista on the disabled list and recalled Moises Sierra.

Davis is an impending free agent and his skill set may be more difficult to replace than would appear at first glance.  Using the list of 2014 Free Agents indicated as centre fielders (a must for a fourth outfielder) by MLB Trade Rumours, I sorted for players more productive than Davis against left-handed pitching (career 112 wRC+ vs. LHP).  There were two – Franklin Gutierrez at 124 and Chris Young at 122 (Andres Torres at 105 was the only other player better than league average).  Of those four Davis has accumulated the same value of BsR – the sum of wSB (linear weights of stolen base in runs above average) and Ultimate Base Running (UBR), which values non-stolen base baserunning events also using runs above average (making UBR similar to UZR) – as the other three combined.  While Gutierrez and Young may provide better offensive value vs. LHP, the speed is a factor that neither can even begin to compensate for, making Davis’ skill set rather unique.

One cheaper option may be an internal fix, where Gose and Pillar platoon in left field, the team to goes back to a seven-man bullpen and the Blue Jays find a right-handed platoon power bat to pair with Lind and some cheap speed.  Of course this would require jettisoning Melky Cabrera on a club that feels his leg issues were turf related.  One year at $8M is a reasonable contract for Cabrera, making it potentially desirable.
The Blue Jays could potentially trade Davis with a handshake agreement to return, but he would be under no obligation to hold to that and Major League Baseball may even consider such an agreement to be tampering as Davis’ new club would have a window of exclusive negotiating rights from the time of the trade until the opening of free agency.

Despite this, I would like to see Davis moved (cost savings $533,000) as he could have value to a potential playoff team.  Cincinnati seems like the most logical landing spot as he could replace Xavier Paul, he of -5 wRC+ in 81 PA vs. LHP.  Heisey edges Paul in wRC+ vs. RHP 103 to 100 and Heisey’s mark vs. southpaws is 82.  Heisey is vastly superior to Paul and Davis would give the Reds a much improved second outfield option off the bench, along with a pinch-runner they sorely lack.

Other teams such as Oakland, Boston and Baltimore either lack room on the bench or need help in the other side of a platoon, but could use him as a pinch-runner if they desired to, although this would be a sub-optimal use of roster space.  Another club could claim him off waivers (thereby blocking Cincinnati from trading for him) and the Blue Jays could work out a trade with them, but a trade to Cincinnati for a mid-level prospect makes the most sense for both parties.  I would be surprised and yet not overly disappointed if Rajai Davis is a Blue Jays on September 1.

Blue Jays Daily: August 21st 2012

This is basically an injury update because thats all the news we really get these days when you're a Blue Jays fan, but there is some stuff about prospects as well.

Morrow Penciled in for Saturday's Start
Brandon Morrow, who up until Felix Hernandez's perfect game last week led the league in complete game shutouts, will return to the mound for the Blue Jays this Saturday. Brandon will face the Orioles, who need to fade, because they aren't good. No decision on who will be sent down to make room for Morrow has been made, but you have to think its going to be Henderson Alvarez or Ricky Romero.

Bautista/Lind Play for the Dunedin Blue  Jays
Blue Jays All Star Jose Bautista and the man who is in the process of losing his job due to David Cooper's success , Adam Lind, are both playing for the Blue Jays High-A team tonight. They should be back with the big league club at the earliest by Friday. Jose should be leading off tonight, and Lind should be batting 2nd, but the game is currently being delayed because of rain. Hopefully they get the game in so our injured players can get some ABs.

Lawrie Shut Down...Possibly for Good
Brett Lawrie has been shut down from his rehab stint, and will need at least a week before he is allowed to rehab again in minor league games. Lawrie's ribcage is sore again, and that is the reason for this setback. Blue Jays Skipper John Farrell did not rule out shutting him down for the rest of the season so he will be ready for next year.
Yorvit Arrives
Recently signed Catcher Yorvit Torrealba is in Detroit and is ready to play if needed tonight. AA said last week that he and Jeff Mathis will split the catching duties if/when JP Arencibia comes back this season. Yorvit told reporters before the game that many teams offered him contracts, but because the Jays were able to promise him playing time, he chose to sign with them. Torrealba was 5-12 with 3 walks in 4 games played with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats(AA) while preparing to come up to Toronto.
Norris Heading to Vancouver
The crown jewel of AA's 2011 MLB Draft, Daniel Norris, has been called up to the Vancouver Canadians(SS A). Norris announced this via his twitter account today. Daniel had a 7.97 ERA in 35.0 IP in BlueField this season, which makes you wonder why exactly he has been called up. But, he is a top-100 prospect in the game for a reason. He has great stuff. I'm sure he will do just fine while playing for the Canadians.

Gose Runner on First(Well Right Field Actually)

It's official. The Blue Jays have placed Jose Bautista on the 15-Day DL with left wrist inflammation. Taking his spot on the roster in none other than Anthony Gose, the speedy Outfielder who is the last remaining healthy piece in the Roy Halladay trade. To make room for Gose on the 40-man roster, Brandon Morrow has been transferred to the 60-Day DL. Morrow is expected back in Late August.

Bautista, who was 2nd in the league in homers, and near the top at a lot of different categories as well(ISO,RBI,BB% amongst others), said that his injury is all about pain tolerance(So he will return when he can handle the pain) because there is no structural damage. Jose also said when meeting with the media today that he believes he was injured because he held onto the bat a little too long, and it has nothing to do with his dives the past few days. He was wearing a soft cast on his left wrist.

Because the Jays are facing a lefty today in CC Sabathia, and because Anthony Gose cannot hit lefties whatsoever, Gose will not start today, although I suspect he will becoming into the game at some point tonight, whether it is hitting or running. According to Barry Davis, he will be playing Right Field tomorrow night.

Morrow is eligible to come off the DL August 11th, but likely won't return until later that month.

Blue Jays Daily: July 16th 2012

Things can't get any worse, can they? 3 quarters of the rotation is injured(and Dustin McGowan), in the bullpen Sergio Santos and Luis Perez are injured (as well as Jesse Litsch), and All-Star Jose Bautista is injured.

Bautista Hurts His Wrist
Yes, Jose Bautista is injured. Jose injured his wrist after fouling off a ball during tonight's game against the Yankees, but doesn't have a broken left wrist. It is a tendon issue, and more details will be known tomorrow when Bautista gets an MRI.He felt a popping sensation in his wrist, which could never be good, especially because a tendon injury could be worse than a broken bone.
Gose Leaves AAA Game
Blue Jays prospect Anthony Gose has been removed from his game for the Las Vegas 51's tonight, and it looks like he is going to be the replacement for Bautista. Gose has an OBP of .376 this year, to go along with 29 steals! We have been discussing on twitter where he will play(If he comes up), and there are a few opinions. I believe CF, because he is a better fielder than Rasmus, and the issue of switching somebodies position in the middle of the season apply's to both of them, so I would go with Gose in centre. Other people, including Mike Wilner of the Fan 590 think Rasmus will stick in CF for this season, but then again, Wilner thought there was almost no chance Gose would be called up, so, ya. And, according to Shi Davidi's "Source", Gose will be called up if Gose goes on the DL
Luis Perez to Undergo TJ Surgery on Tuesday
Blue Jays relief pitcher Luis Perez will undergo Tommy John surgery tomorrow in Pensacola, Florida performed by Dr. James Andrews(This sounds way too familiar). Perez tore his UCL during the Jays game vs. the White Sox on July 8th, and surgery was decided on during the All-Star Break. Luis had a 3.43 ERA in 42 IP in 2012.
Morrow Takes Another Step Forward
Blue Jays Ace Brandon Morrow has pitched another strong bullpen session yesterday. He is scheduled for another bullpen on Thursday, and if he is setback free(Fingers crossed), he will throw live BP next week. After that he will require 3-5 rehab starts. A Late August return is probable for the pitcher who had a 3.01 ERA in 13 starts for the Jays earlier this year.
Possible Line-Ups Involving Gose?
This would be my ideal line up with Gose in the majors and Bautista injured.
Gose-CF Lawrie-3B Encarnacion-1B Rasmus-CF Lind-DH Escobar-SS Johnson-2B Davis-LF Arencibia-C

What are your opinions on the recent moves and injuries? Let us know with a comment and we can discuss!

Blue Jays Mid-Season Grades:Part 1

Time flies; Right? It seems like just yesterday that JPA won the longest game in Opening Day history with his 3 run home run in the 16th inning against the Cleveland Indians on April 5th. Tonight will mark the 81st game for the Jays this season, and, as expected, they have hovered around .500 the entire season. The fact that they have been able to be .500 is astounding due to the fact that they lost 3 starting pitchers in 1 week, have had no offensive production from C,1B and LF(in the case of C, there has been no defensive production either), and have had minimal offensive production as well from SS and 2B. The 25 man roster I will be grading is the 25 players with the most action (PA for batters, IP for pitchers).  Here are the highest 5!
Darren Oliver-A+
Oliver has easily been the most reliable
pitcher this season for Toronto.
The 41 year old Oliver has been untouchable this season for the Jays. He has pitched to a 1.59 ERA, a 270 ERA+, and a FIP of 2.80. The lefty Oliver, who sits in the high 80’s with his fastball co-leads the Jays with 8 Shutdown appearances, to go along with just 3 meltdowns. He has 100% been the best pitcher on the staff this season, and is the best off-season move by AA to this point. In a bullpen that has not produced to what was expected, Oliver has been a constant success, a pleasure to watch, and has quickly become a fan favorite. If the Jays do go into sell mode before the deadline, Oliver will probably be moved, as he has a lot of value on the trade market, but if not, which is more likely, I don’t see any reason why his $3 million 2013 Anthoption will not be picked up at the end of this season.
Jose Bautista-A
The lone Blue Jays 2012 All Star is coming off of one of the best months that I can remember as he hit 14 home runs this past June. Bautista’s June raised his stats to A level, as his OPS is back above .900, he is on pace for 54 home runs, and is also on pace to break 100 walks again. The average isn’t there, but who really cares about average anyways? His OBP is very good at .361, nowhere near last year’s unsustainable mark of .447, but above .360 is great for anybody. He, along with the other 3 players in the top of the order, has kept the Jays in the playoff hunt, and has spoken out recently that he wants the Jays to be buyers, and to try to contend this year. This grade would have been an A+ if he put up these same numbers by averaging them out per month, but because of his horrible April, it is only an A.I can see him finishing the year with around 50 home runs, 100+ RBI, and an OBP of close to .400 if not more.
Bautista and Encarnacion have been the most
powerful 3-4 punch in all of Baseball this season.
Edwin Encarnacion-A
EE was keeping the Jays afloat in April and May until Jose regained his robotic form, and has been one of the most consistent players to play for the Jays so far this season. Edwin is among the league leaders in HRs, OBP, SLG, OPS, and for some strange reason, HBP. Encarnacion has been hit by 8 pitches this season, but has also been walked 32 times. I believe Edwin should have been an All-Star, but because he plays for the Jays, who get no recognition by the MLB at all, he is not. He has also added a bit of a speed element to his game, as he has stolen 8 bases so far this season, while only being caught twice. The only thing keeping him from being an A+ in my opinion is his defense, which has been below replacement level this season.
Brett Lawrie-B+
The major league leader in WAR (According to Baseball-Reference, not FanGraphs) has been very consistent this season, but has not had the power we expected from him. Since moving into the leadoff spot he has been seeing a lot more pitches, and as a result of this, he has seen his power numbers go up a little. His defense has been stellar at third, and his incredible athleticism has let the Jays use him in unconventional shifts that have been the reason for him leading the league in DRS and WAR. In order to get into the A- to A+ level by the end of the year, I think we need to see Brett start hitting for power, and to get on base more, as his .337 OBP is not very good for a leadoff hitter. Even though his power numbers have not been there so much this season, Brett has been somebody the Jays can count on all season long offensively and defensively.
Rasmus and Lawrie have sparked the offense
since moving into the 1 and 2 spots in the lineup.
Colby Rasmus-B
Since being moved into the #2 spot in the lineup, Rasmus is raking, and has made Tony La Russa look like a complete idiot, or shall I say made him look like a bigger idiot. After a great June that saw Colby hit 8 home runs, Rasmus hit a ball 448 feet last night off of the 5th deck at Rogers Centre. That home run defined how well Colby is seeing the ball of late. When he gets his pitch, he does not miss. He has changed his stance, and due to that change he is now one of the best offensive center fielders in baseball. For Colby to improve this grade, he is going to need to get on base more, which he has been doing of late, but he still needs to work on it, and he needs to get better reads/jumps on balls,. His defense has been slightly above average, but it could definitely be better.

What do you guys think of the grades so far? Would you have graded them differently? Leave a comment below with your opinion!

Blue Jays – From a Fantasy Baseball Perspective

Can the Toronto Blue Jays finally play meaningful ball in September?  This will probably be the year.  Could they win 90 games?  If they played in any other division, then yes, but since they don’t, they will probably win 85 or so.  It’s fun to talk about how the team will do in 2012; it’s been exciting this spring training.  What if we were to look at each position and break down how they stack up against other teams, you know for fantasy baseball purposes.

I have been playing fantasy baseball for over 10 years now and have loved every minute of it.  this is the first season in a while where I am putting trades out there where I am trying to purposefully trade for Blue Jay players.  There are a few who are valuable for fantasy teams, and will help Toronto get to 85 wins in 2012 as well.  Below is a breakdown of each position, with projected stats, and how they rank against others at that position

C – JP Arencibia – I still can’t believe the guy hit 23 HR and 78 RBI’s in his rookie season.  He should put up similar numbers in 2012, and I actually have him and the majors 8th best catcher.  2012 – 60-25-80.

1B – Adam Lind – I would love to have his 2009 numbers where he hit 35 HR and 114 RBI’s.  He has the ability to do that again, but injuries stand in his way.  He could be one of the top-15 fantasy first basemen.  2012 – 80-30-90.

2B – Kelly Johnson – is one year removed from 93 runs and 26 HR’s.  He could bat either 1st, 2nd or 6th and steals bases as well.  His value is flying under the radar as a top 10 2B in 2012.  2012 – 85-25-75-15.

SS – Yunel Escobar – 2009 was also a good year for Yunel.  SS is traditionally a weak position offensively, and Yunel’s spot in the order, is primed for another solid season.  He could be a top 12 SS offensively at the end of 2012.  2012 – 90-15-70-5.

3B – Brett Lawrie – it’s a surprise to see he is only 21.  This is the type of player you build a team around.  Who is Shawn Marcum again?  His rankings at 3B are skewed only because of his teammate – Jose Bautista, who also qualifies at 3B in 2012 for some reason.  He will finish as a top 10 3B in baseball.  2012 – 90-30-90-15.

LF – Eric Thames – wants us to all remember he is only 25 as well.  Last year he began the season in the minors.  In his first full season, he could put up good numbers in the #7 slot in the batting order, and will be in the top 100 for outfielders.  2012 – 65-20-60.

CF – Colby Rasmus – he also is only 25.  Even though there is some negativity surrounding him, he had a great  2010.  He has potential for a great season, with everything behind him now.  He should be a top 50 OF but could be much higher.  2012 - 85-25-80-15.

RF - Jose Bautista – is one of the best players in all of baseball.  I have him down as the 3rd best OF in baseball behind Kemp and Braun.  I took him ahead of Pujols in one mock draft a week ago.  2012 – 105-45-110-10.

DH – Edwin Encarnacion – like Lind and Johnson is a question mark but could produce this year.  He needs to put up great numbers if the Blue Jays have hopes of improving on their 81 wins from last year.  Most teams have had more production from their DH who make the playoffs.  2012 – 70-20-75-10.

Bench – Rajai Davis will steal 40 this year in a limited role.

Pitching Staff
  1. Ricky Romero – the Ace of the staff has come a long way from the emotional rookie who learned how to be a big leaguer from Roy Halladay.  He has won 14 games on average over the past 3 seasons.  2012 – 16-9 185 K’s.
  2. Brandon Morrow is doing things right this spring.  He has allowed just 1 ER and John Farrell has predicted big things from Morrow in what he calls his 3rd season as a starter.  I expect big things from him this year.  2012 – 14-12 215 K’s.
  3. Henderson Alvarez – is like Lawrie in that he is only 21.  It is hard to believe when you see him pitch a game; he is what they call mature beyond his age.  2012 – 12-9 150 K’s.
  4. Dustin McGowan just resigned another great deal for Toronto.  He is the big question mark heading into 2012.  He has the stuff to win 15 games, but might not win 5.  He is 30 now and no one really knows what 2012 will bring, but anything will be a plus.  2012 – 8-10 120 K’s.
  5. Brett Cecil – is can be hard to believe that he won 15 games in 2010.  He fell off the map last year and is needed to have a great season if the Jays will move ahead in the standings this year.  Again, who knows what 2012 will bring?  2012 – 12-11 130K’s.
  6. Kyle Drabek – is on this list because he has looked good all spring and will begin by spelling McGowan who is on the DL.  He like McGowan has the stuff to win 15 games, but is only 24.  He is on the upswing.  2012 – 7-5 80K’s.
Closer – Sergio Santos – besides having the best contract in all of baseball, was one of the biggest suprises all off-season.  He is a converted SS and was a former Jays prospect.  I am glad to have him back, that’s for sure.  2012 – 35 saves, 95 K’s.  He could end up being a top 3 closer in the AL.

The Blue Jays have at least 10 guys now who are reasonable fantasy players.  There are only 4 real question marks, offensively in 2012.  Could the Jays win 90 games?  They will need more than a few things to go their way.  But this is one year where they will have a few players on their roster put up some good stats.  Whether you’re watching the Blue Jays for the wins, for fantasy purposes, or for both, 2012 will be a fun year.

For its 1,2,3 Bautista Bombs at the Old Ball Game!!!!

After hitting home runs in the past two games, Jose Bautista was 1 ahead of Curtis Granderson for the MLB lead coming into Sunday's game. But poor Bautista didn't feel comfortable with just a 1 home run lead, so he decided to join Roy Halladay in the non-human club. He went up to bat 3 straight times on Sunday, and all three times hit home runs. Bautista is now on pace to hit 64.8 if he plays every single game until the end of the regular season. With Jose's help The Jays wrapped up the sweep of the ailing Twins by giving them a nice thumping by a score of 11-3. Aaron Hill looked as he finally found his swing after a year and a half of just waving at the ball. Hill went 2-5 with 2 rbi's, and Jose Molina went 3-4 but did a lot of running. Molina scored from first on a double by Yunel Escobar, and also tagged up from second to third on a pop up to center field again off of the bat of Yunel Escobar. Brandon Morrow looked good when he was good, but looked awful when he was bad. Morrow walked in a run in the 4th, but also struck out 8 in just 5 innings of work. Morrow just couldn't find the strike zone most of the time, and that was the reason behind his high pitch count, which tallied 106 when Shawn Camp came into the game to work the 6th inning. The Jays are now back to .500 for the first time since April 30th, and are 4-3 when Alan Ashby calls the game on Sportsnet.

After Winning the game for the Jays on Tuesday night, David Cooper thought he would stay in Toronto for a while, presuming they would go back to a 7 man bullpen when Jayson Nix is ready to return from the disabled list. That prediction was wrong as Cooper was sent back down to the Las Vegas 51's today to make room for the healthy Nix. Cooper was batting .121 for the Jays, but also drew 5 walks.

Tomorrow's game in Detroit is scheduled for 7:05 PM, and Adam Lind is scheduled to be back in the line up for the first time since last Saturday.

Alomar Elected to Hall in Second Year,Bautista Moving Back to the Outfield?

A year ago Roberto Aomar was just 8 votes shy of being elected into the Hall of Fame, this year he won 90% of the vote, and was elected. Alomar won two world series championships with the Jays in 1992 and 1993, and won 10 gold gloves during the course of his stellar career. He also won 4 silver slugger awards at second base, and drove in over 100 runs twice. He will be inducted with former Blue Jays GM Pat Gillick on July 24th 2011.

Since AA would hate to put Jose Bautista at third base he is trying to get another option to play the hot corner. The Blue Jays have already had 6 time gold glove winner Eric Chavez try out for the position, and would love an upgrade at the position.

Managerial Roster Finished,Some More Hardware for Bautista

One of the legends of the glory days in Blue Jays history is coming back to the Rogers Centre. Pat Hengten is going to replace Rick Langford as the Jays bullpen for 2011 season. Also joining the Jays staff is Don Wakamatsu as bench coach,Torey Lovullo will be the first base coach, and Luis Rivera as coaching assistant. Brian Butterfield will stay with the Jays to be the third base coach, Dwayne Murphy will remain as the Jays hitting coach, and Bruce Walton will be the pitching coach. Wakamatsu will be allowed to interview for the job of managing the New York Mets,as he was before he signed with the Jays. This staff is very energetic and should be a perfect with the young team that the Jays will put on the field in 2011.

Last week Alex Anthopoulous made a move to decline CL Kevin Gregg's option for the 2011 season. Gregg is a "Type B Free Agent", meaning that if the Jays offer him arbitration, and he declines the Jays will get a sandwich pick in between the first and second round of the 2011 MLB draft. Of course the Blue Jays only get that pick if Gregg signs with another team.

AA also made an interesting move a week ago, when he acquired C Miguel Olivo from the Rockies, for a player to be named later.Only a few hours later AA declined Olivo's 2011 option, once again securing a compensation pick if he signs elsewhere. From those two moves you can tell the direction AA and the Jays are moving in,they want to rack up a lot of draft picks.

In other free agent news, Postseason miracle worker, Cliff Lee had an interview this week, with non-other than GM Brian Cashman,GM of the New York Yankees.

Jose Bautista won his second award of the off-season so far today, when he racked up a Silver Slugger for the most powerful outfielder. Jose will likely win the Most improved player award, which fellow teammate 2b Aaron Hill won after the 2009 season.

Make sure to vote for the TYIB awards, especially for the Blue Jays going for the awards.

Toronto Blue Jays Season Review

The Blue Jays finished 85-77,at least 20 wins more than most prognosticators predicted the Jays would win.Leading the league in home runs with 257, tt was a good year for the offense, while the pitching was not far behind. The big 4 in the rotation,(Ricky Romero, Shaun Marcum, Brett Cecil, and Brandon Morrow) all had above 10 wins, with 15 being the most by Brett Cecil. Every pitcher on the Jays staff who pitched more than 50 innings last season, had a whip of 1.60 or lower. This season included some amazing moments from John McDonalds fathers day home run to Jose Bautista's 50th home run.

These are my predictions for next years 25-man roster.

SP Shaun Marcum
SP Ricky Romero
SP Brett Cecil
SP Brandon Morrow
SP Kyle Drabek
CP Kevin Gregg
SU Shawn Camp
SU Casey Janssen
LRP David Purcey
LRP Taylor Buchholz
MRP Mark Rzepczynski
MRP Rommie Lewis

C J.P Arencibia
1B Paul Konerko (Free Agency)

50 for Bautista,30 for Wells,20 for Overbay,It's the Year of the Long Ball

On Thursday night,Jose Bautista did something only 26 other people in the entire world can say they did.He hit his 50th home run of the season as the Jays beat the Mariners,by a score of 6-4. On Friday night Vernon Wells hit his 30th home run, which is his third 30 home run season in his career. On Saturday in the bottom of the eleventh inning, with the score tied at 4 Lyle Over bay stepped up to the plate and hit a walk off home run.

Last Saturday, Kevin Gregg recorded his 33rd save of the season which breaks his season record of 32 that he posted in 2007.Gregg was signed in the off-season last year and all the critics said that he would be a waste of money and that he was going to pitch horribly.Gregg is pitching decent with 35 saves in 40 opportunities.

Yesterday, the Cuban defector Aroldis Chapman,of the Cincinnati Reds did not throw one of his 25 pitches under 100 MPH. Chapman also threw the fastest pitch ever recorded in a major league game at 105 MPH. Chapman was in contract talks with Blue jays in the off-season but he decided to go Cincinnati instead.

This week the first two clubs to clinch the playoffs were The Minnesota Twins when they clinched the AL Central, and the Texas Rangers clinched the AL West. The playoffs start October 6th on Fox and TBS.

Bautista ties Bell with his 47th, Big News From Vancouver

On Wednesday night George Bell was relaxing when he got a call from Baltimore. As he picked up he found out that Jays slugger Jose Bautista hit his 47th home run of the season, tying Bell's all time Blue Jays record, which he hit in his MVP 1987 Season.Bautista hit a 1-0 fastball into left field, which was his 7th homer against the O's this season, which is the most by him against any team. All 47 of his bombs have been to left or left center field, and most of them have been on fastballs.

The Blue Jays and the Vancouver Canadians have announced that they are going to be the short season A ball team for the Jays when it comes to the start of the 2011 season. The Jays ended there contract with the Auburn Doubledays, and agreed to terms with the C's.There hasn't been a minor league baseball team in Canada since the Ottawa Lynx stop playing in 2007,but before that there have been many teams. For example ,the Medicine Hat Blue Jays, the St. Catherines Blue Jays, the London Tigers, the Edmonton Trappers, the Calgary Cannons, and the famous Montreal Royals, for which Jackie Robinson played for in 1945.Minor League Baseball in Canada is back and better then ever.

Bautista wins yet another award, Jays Keep on Riding Home Runs to Victory

Jose Bautista is having a year that he could never have dreamed of. The Says slugger leads the league in home runs,is 2nd in rbi's with 103,and is in 3rd with a slugging percentage of .618. Bautista also has 3 player of the weeks awards, and won his second player of the month award on Wednesday.Bautista is also in 3rd in league in walks with 87,and is tied for first with 76 XBH.

The Jays have won there last two games, while hitting six home runs over that stretch. Not only is the batting on fire for the blue birds, Brett Cecil and Ricky Romero have started the two games and have pitched 13.1 innings, allowing just 4 runs while striking out just 5 batters. Vernon Wells and Aaron hill went deep in Sunday and Monday's game.

While scrolling around on the Fisher Cats website I found a left fielder that I've never heard about that made me very excited. His name is Eric Thames and he hit .288 with an impressive 27 home runs and 104 rbi's.Thames also had a .370 on base percentage to go along with a .526 slugging percentage. Thames was drafted 219th overall by the Jays in the 2008 first year player draft. I think he has a chance of cracking a spot on the Jays next season out of spring training if a trade is made to clear up some room in the Jays amazing outfield. Only time will tell with this amazing 24 year old prospect.

Make sure you vote for Tom Cheek to win the Ford.C Frick award and for Vernon Wells for the 5-tool player award.

Morrow to be Shut Down, Manny Going to Chicago

Blue Jays GM Alex Anthopoulous announced on Sunday that arguably the Jays best starter this season will be shut down after his next start on Friday, because he has approached his inning limit.

Blue Jays 3B Edwin Encarnacion was placed on the 15-day DL on Sunday, while UTIL Mike McCoy was called up from AAA LAs Vegas.McCoy was sent down in June because the team wanted him to work on playing shortstop.

For the third time this season Jose Bautista was named the AL Player of the Week on Sunday. Bautista batted .500 for the week while hitting 4 home runs including his 40th of the season. Bautista is also in the running for AL Player of the month whih will be announced in the coming weeks.

Manny Ramirez is going to the windy city as he was claimed off of waivers by the Chicago White Sox.The LA Dodgers fell further out of a playoff race, so losing Manny's contract seemed like a good idea to them.

Bautista Hits #41 on the season, 100 Career

Jose Bautista hit his 41st home run tonight and his 100th career as the Blue Jays were beaten 7-1 by the Detroit Tigers. On Wednesday night the Jays beat the Yankees 6-3 as Vernon Wells was a double shy of the cycle .On Tuesday night the Jays were obliterated by the Yankees 11-5 as the Bronx Bombers feasted on Mark Rzepczynski's horrible pitching. The Jays are struggling as they are now 4 for there last 10,and only 5 games above .500.

On Sunday August 22nd, Damien Cox, the Hockey Columnist for the Toronto Star, blogged asking a question if Jose Bautista was using Steroids. Although it was a legitimate question,it was wrong in my opinion. Yes, Bautista had never hit more than 20 home runs in one season and 41 of his 100 home runs have come this season, but this guys arms look like those of a normal person. When McGuire,Sosa, and the Godfather of Steroids, Jose Canseco were juicing there arms were bigger than most people's heads.Damien Cox as mentioned before is a hockey columnist which might explain why he doesn't know that from when your 28-32 you play the best baseball of your career, that's why its your prime.

Post comments with your opinion of whether it was okay for Damien Cox to blog that.

Strikeouts,Brawls,Streakers, and Home Runs: The Perfect Ball Game

In the First inning of the Blue Jays game on Monday Night the Jays had the bases loaded with none out.The Yankees got three quick outs and the inning was over.

Eight innings, two home runs, one streaker, one brawl, and two ejections later The Blue Birds beat the Yankees 3-2.Jose Bautista hit his 39th and 40th home runs of the season, while Brandon Morrow pitched a spectacular 12 strikeout performance. In Bautista's second At bat the Yankees pitcher threw the ball right at Jose's head. The benches cleared and on the next pitch he Hammered the ball to deep center field for a fly out.But his next At bat he crushed his 40th home run of the season and his 2nd of the game.

Yunel Escobar and Cito Gaston were both ejected for what seems to be arguing balls and strikes but it isn't clear.

In Washington this morning Stephen Strasburg, the flame throwing 2009 No.1 Pick was placed on the disabled list for the second times in as many months because of shoulder soreness. That injury usually occurs when you throw 102mph at such a young age.

In Arlington, Texas the Rangers Pitchers were two out away from achieving a combined no-hitter but Joe Mauer singled up the middle 25 outs in to break up the No-No.

The Idiot Could be heading Back To Bean town

Johnny Damon was claimed by the Red Sox on Monday morning. The hero of the 2004 world series champions needs to waive his no-trade-clause by Wednesday,if he is to return to Fenway Park this season.

Jays Lose Another, but Bats Finally Come Alive

The Jays have now lost 7 of there last 9 games and destined to make all the baseball predictors stop scratching their heads. All but a few sports reporters predicted that these Jays would finish in last place in the AL East, but the Blue Birds were proving them wrong up until Interleague Play started. The Jays were knocking the ball out of the park at record paces, but just like every other year, the team falls apart in Mid-June.

Remember to vote for Alex Gonzalez, Jose Bautista, and Vernon Wells as those are the three Blue jays that deserve all-star recognition.

Also remember to vote for Jose Bautista, and Vernon Wells who are in the top 5 in the MLB for the lead in home runs and should be representing Toronto during the home run derby on July 13th.

I am going away for the summer so this will be my last post until late august.

Go Jays!!!!!

Jays Sweep Orioles as Romero Goes Complete

Ricky Romero threw a spectacular game while getting some help on the offensive side. The Blue Jays hit there 51st,52nd, and 53rd home runs of May as they cruised past the O's in Toronto. The Home Plate Umpire was horrible as his strike zone began at least half a foot below the knee. Jose Bautista and Alex Gonzalez went back to back with home runs in the same direction. Bautista still leads the MLB in Home Runs and tied a career high in home runs in one season today.Although Bautista will most likely not be here again next year it is nice to see him contributing to the line up.

Brian Tallet will be called up on Tuesday to make the start at home against the Rays. Tallet is getting close to his 30 day limit of rehabilitation in the minor leagues so he was a front runner to be called up. He will be making the start in place of Dana Eveland who was designated for assignment last week. I think Tallet will be sent down once more on Wednesday as that is the Jays last time they need a number 5 starter in June because they have 4 off-days. My guess is that David Purcey will be sent to Las Vegas on Tuesday to make room for Tallet.

First Pitch tomorrow at 7:07 EDT

Matt Garza (5-3,2.97)for the rays against Brandon Morrow (3-4,6.66)

Jays Split First Two Games in Angels Series,Eveland Designated For Assignment

The power hitting Blue Jays won on Monday night with no home runs but lost on Tuesday with three solo shots. Brett Cecil threw a gem while he allowed just three hits in eight innings on Monday night. On Tuesday night Ricky Romero was pitching for the first time in California in front of his family and friends, but he could not take the pressure as he allowed seven runs in his worst start if the season.

After Jose Baustista`s 5th inning bomb, he became the MLB leader in home runs with a total of 15,just one shy of his season best 16 that came in 2006,in which he only played 117 games. Bautista has 15 through only 45 games this season.

On Sunday afternoon Dana Eveland, number five starting pitcher for the Jays, was designated for assignment after some poor starts.Eveland has ten days to be traded, claimed off of waivers,or be released. If none of those happen he will be sent down to AAA Las Vegas 51`s of the Pacific Coast league. David Purcey was called up to the show to pitch in the bullpen. The Jays will likely go with a four-man rotation until rehabbing Jesse Litsch comes back next month.

First Pitch goes in about an hour (7:05) in Anaheim.
Brandon Morrow (3-4,6.80) vs. Joel Pineiro (3-5,5.50)
